I Am My Father's Garden

These are the voices and teachings of my garden. The garden speaks to me, teaches me and disciplines me. For me, it is the Creator speaking through His creation.

Spending Time in the Weeds

It’s that time of the year where most everything in the garden is dead but I just haven’t had time to clean it out. I went out to the garden this morning and decided I’d just pull some weeds. I wasn’t really looking for any harvest, I was just going to pull some weeds. Pulling weeds is a good exercise. It gives you time to focus on what’s choking the life out of you. If you don’t spend some time in the weeds, they will take over. The longer you leave them, the harder they will be to pull out. So spending a little time every now and then just to focus on the weeds is a good thing. Get them while they’re young and easy to pull out. So I pulled some weeds and while I was at it, I paid a little attention to the dead stuff too. I noticed that while most everything in the garden was dead, there were a few plants that were still struggling to produce, even among the weeds and the dead stuff. So I’m wondering, maybe, if I clear out the weeds and the dead stuff would the harvest that’s struggling to survive flourish? Hmmm……not sure, but it’s worth a try. So I think I’ll spend a little more time pulling the weeds and clearing out the dead stuff.
