Run Your Race

When someone has so significantly impacted your life, it is difficult to find words to describe the pain of living in a world without them. Today we laid my friend, my brother, Byron Brown to rest. It is Byron who introduced not only me, but our entire tribe, to running and walking. To 5K’s, 10K’s Half’s and Marathons. When Byron first told us that we were going to do the White Rock Half Marathon back in 2005 (yes, he “told” us….not asked us if we wanted to), we all thought he ‘d lost his mind! But yet here we are, almost 20 years later with a wall of medals proving that we could and we did. Byron always coached us to “Run YOUR race”. Don’t look at those who pass you and don’t worry about those behind you. Run your race. Do what YOU can do. It is not just on the pavement that Byron ran his race. His true race was in encouraging and serving others. He gave so much of himself to us and to all those he came in contact with. He truly served his entire community. He poured himself out until he was totally empty. And now he has crossed the ultimate Finish Line and heaven is his reward. Rest well my brother. Until we meet again on the golden streets of heaven. Rest well.
