In gardening, there are certain plants for certain seasons. There are the cool weather plants (lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.) and there are your warm weather plants (okra, tomatoes, etc.). When we plant and expect to continue harvesting plants outside of their season, it can be disappointing. It doesn’t mean that the plant wasn’t a good plant, it just means its season is past. So yesterday as I was weeding and pulling out some of my early spring plants, weeding, fertilizing the summer plants and preparing the soil for the upcoming fall season planting, I thought about how it is the same with life. We have to constantly evaluate our life and be clear on what people, jobs, organizations and opportunities are long term versus those that were meant for a season. Maybe we are disappointed because what we want to be lifetime was meant only for a season. We must appreciate the gift of the season! Similarly, we must continuously evaluate our lives for weeds. What is it that is choking the life out of you? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….pull the weeds early and often! Don’t let them grow deep roots and take control. One of the worst weeds, at least in my life, can be the voices in your head. The voices in your head can cause you to fret and worry about things that just aren’t true. The voices in your head can make you say and do things that are unreasonable. They can cause you to lose sleep and eventually make you sick. Weed out the voices in your head! Test them against what is true. And in so doing, prepare for and make space for the harvest that is to come!
