I Am My Father's Garden

These are the voices and teachings of my garden. The garden speaks to me, teaches me and disciplines me. For me, it is the Creator speaking through His creation.

Seeds

My garden friend Alicia Haskin reminded me that it is time to plant. My first thought was, it’s 35 degrees! She said I should plant onions, carrots, beets and cabbage and when I asked her when would be the harvest, she said late April or early May. So I’m supposed to get out in this cold and plant and not see anything until the late Spring? Brrrrrrr, baby it’s cold outside! But then I was reminded of the nature of seeds. “They go underground. They disappear. And while it may seem like they are dead, they are not. They’re just germinating beneath the surface”. I remembered how great it is when that harvest comes through and the fruits and vegetables are overflowing.

Prayers are like seeds. “Each prayer is like a seed that gets planted in the ground. It disappears for a season, but it eventually bears fruit that blesses future generations”. We all have those prayers where we pray and pray and nothing happens. It seems that God does not hear. But then weeks, months even years later, HE comes through and we’ve forgotten that this is the answer to a prayer we prayed so long ago. “We cannot make things grow. All we can do is plant and water. But if we plant and water, God promises to give the increase.”

Thank you my friend. Let me get out and find me some seeds to plant!

Happy Sunday Saints!
