In a world of darkness, fear and anxiety, there are signs of hope all around us. This virus started in the middle of winter and we didn’t pay much attention until we were in the eye of the blizzard. But as we enter into Spring, there are signs of hope all around us. Spring ushers in a fresh start, a rebirth so to speak. Trees are in bloom, tulips, azaleas and the first flowers of spring are pushing forth, grass is greening. These are the first signs of Spring. Hope for the things to come. Sunshine on our face. Long summer days.
On yesterday, I planted my garden. Alone. Without my Dad. It was sad but brought back so many good memories and all the lessons he and this garden have taught me. So I leaned into those lessons. Cleared the weeds, turned the soil, put down the fertilizer and last but most importantly…..planted the seeds. These seeds will appear to lie dormant for the next several weeks. From the top of the soil, it will appear that nothing is happening. But in 7-10 days, I will go out and find tiny plants pushing through the soil. I will look upon those tiny plants with great expectation of the harvest to come.
And so my friends, while it may appear that we are lying dormant, sheltered in our homes. Plant your seeds. Be kind to each other. Invest in your spiritual and physical health. Rest. Know that God is at work. Our scientists are at work. Our medical professionals are at work. And Spring is on the way. Wait safely as these seeds of hope will soon push through the dirt of destruction and come forth with a great harvest.
Be Safe! Happy Sunday!
