Protected in the Face of the Unexpected

As I reflect over the past year, my first assessment is that 2017 and 2018 were unkind to us. They have been tough years. Full of unexpected trials, false hopes and disappointments. Yet, upon further introspection, I find that through it all, our every need has been met. Hallelujah! There have been joyous moments with friends and families, a closer binding of hearts among our very close support system, surprise provisions, unexpected grace and undeserved mercy. We have been protected in the face of the unexpected! It is common that we remember and dwell on the negative. Five people can tell us how great we look or how well we did, but we remember most that one person that told us something was a little off or that we missed a point, etc. We each think our situation is the most dire. There have many times over the past two years when I have cried out “Why is the happening? And where are Your miracles?”. But as I earnestly reflect, there have been miracles every day. There have been daily provisions. There have been unexpected surprises of support. There has been lots of laughter and tears of joy. We have been protected in the unexpected! So as I move forward into this new year, my soul cries out Hallelujah!

Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me; for my soul trusteth in Thee; yea, in the shadow of Thy wings will I take refuge, until these calamities past. (Psalms 57:1)
