I Am My Father's Garden

These are the voices and teachings of my garden. The garden speaks to me, teaches me and disciplines me. For me, it is the Creator speaking through His creation.

Choked by Weeds

So I got lazy with the fall garden. With the spring garden, I was out there every week pulling weeds, fertilizing and watering to ensure a good environment for the seeds and plants to flourish. But with the fall garden, I got lazy. I threw out my turnip and mustard seeds and kinda left them to fend for themselves. I saw the weeds, near to the ground, but I figured the greens would grow above the weeds and I’d just pick the greens. But the greens were stunted, they didn’t grow tall and full. Yeah, I got a few messes, but nothing near what I would expect. While I saw the weeds on top of the soil, what I didn’t see was the roots underneath the soil choking out the roots of my greens so that they could not grow fully. In the Parable of the Sower, the bible teaches that the farmer planted his seeds.” Some fell along the path and were eaten by the birds. Some fell on rocky places without much soil and was scorched by the sun. Others fell among thorns which grew up and choked the plants so that they did not bear grain.” Weeds will choke the very life out of you. If we get complacent and don’t take care of ourselves, we will cease to produce good crops. We must feed our spirits with goodness, especially in times like these. Don’t let the news, social media and negative people choke the very life out of you. Root out the weeds! Feed your spirit with laughter. With hope. With thankfulness. There’s a great harvest coming!
