On yesterday my brother and I laid our father to rest. It was a small quiet celebration surrounded by those he loved in a place that he called “the Holy Land”. We took him home to rest with his ancestors. This morning I awoke with an incredible peace. The bible teaches that the Lord gives us a “peace that surpasses all understanding”. It means “that no matter our circumstances, whether we are facing death, torture, arrest, or ridicule, we’ll be able to handle it in stride.” So this morning, I headed out to Starbucks for a cup of coffee, cooked a good breakfast and now am doing something my father taught me to love…..planning the garden! Oh my gosh…I think I went a little overboard on the seeds but I can’t wait to share the harvest. I am still amazed by the gardening process. That these tiny seeds, when nurtured properly, grow into an abundant harvest that nourishes the body, mind and soul. As I listened to family and friends speak of my father and read the many cards, I am aware of the seeds he planted in so many lives. He lived to see the harvest of so many students and community members that were impacted by his life. He left a legacy of giving and of serving. I can only hope that I would in some small way do the same.
Let’s plant some seeds!
